Referencing (TAFE)

Referencing advice

General advice for referencing reports:

  • An author can be a person or group of people, business, or organisation.
  • For in-text citations - If the author of the report is commonly known by an acronym e.g. World Health Organisation is known as WHO, use the abbreviation for the organisation's name in all in-text citations. You will expand on this acronym in the reference list.
  • For reference lists - After using a shortened form of the name of an organisation, start the reference list entry with the shortened form of the name, followed by the full name in brackets. E.g. AACo (Australian Agricultural Company) (2019) Sustainability benchmarking report 2019, AACo, accessed 24 June 2021, https://aaco.com.au/about-us/environment-sustainability
  • If you’re citing a PDF, avoid linking directly to the PDF. Instead link to the page that hosts the PDF as this is more stable and does not require a download.
  • Only provide information you have available; not all reports will have a report number, for example.
