Print Publication (s113P)

TAFE Queensland is covered by the Statutory Text and Artistic Works Licence (section 113P of the Copyright Act).

This is a paid licence that gives our staff the convenience of using a reasonable amount of published text and artistic works for educational purposes without seeking copyright owners' permission.

A warning notice is required to limit the potential liability of TAFE Queensland in the event that a student uses the content in a way that may infringe copyright.

The contents copied using this licence must be placed in a password protected environment to limit access to enrolled students only.  

TAFE Queensland may participate in surveys to capture the extent of reproduction under this licence.

For print publications, the table below outlines the maximum amounts that can be copied.

Type of publication Amount that can be copied
Books 10% or the total number of pages OR 1 chapter
Newspapers, magazines, journals 1 article in a journal, more than 1 if on the same topic
Anthologies One short story if less than 15 pages, if the work is more than 15 pages, 10% or one chapter.
Artistic works (photographs, cartoons, diagrams and drawing) with accompanying text The whole of the artistic work
Artistic works with no accompanying text (eg a slide, photograph of a painting) The whole work is it has not been separately published or if published it is not available within 30 days at an ordinary commercial price
Technical manuals 10% or the total numebr of pages OR 1 chapter
Plays, screenplays, sheet music 10% of the total number of pages

When material is used under s113P, a warning notice should be added to the resource preceding the content.

Do not remove this notice.

If there are multiple reproductions under s113P within a single resource, use the following warning notice once at the beginning to cover the whole resource.

For text and images, include as much of the following as possible:

  • Author and publisher names
  • Title, edition or date of publication
  • ISBN or ISSN

Attribute as:

Copied under s113P [insert author, title, publisher, edition or date of publication, ISBN/ISSN]

The attribution should be placed wherever practicable, eg. below the content, in the footer of each of the relevant page or as an intro/end credits page.
