Social Media (s113P)

Social media such as Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), blogs, Facebook and Instagram are all free for people to join and share content. While they can be genuine sources of news and stories, they can also include misinformation and copyright infringing content.

  • Always evaluate the reliability and authenticity of the content.
  • Provide a link to the source page instead of copying any content.
  • Avoid infringing content and images. Re-posts and stock images are not copyrighted to the social media owners and shouldn't be copied and used in TAFE Queensland training material.
  • If you need stock images, use TAFE Queensland licensed Adobe Stock or Microsoft 365 Stock Images.
  • If you are copying any original and genuine content from social media for education, attribute as copied under s113P of the Copyright Act.
  • Limit the amount to under 10% and include the warning notice.
  • Note that you cannot rely on s113P to post any content to social media.

When material is used under s113P, a warning notice should be added to the resource preceding the content.

"deep understanding — new ways of thinking about ideas borne of authentic collaborative inquiry — are far less likely to vanish. Students may be unable to recall the six stages of cell division, or the definition of a participle, or the approved steps for doing long division. But they’re probably not going to forget how to set up an experiment to test their own hypothesis (if they had the chance to do science)"
