Using USBs

A USB is a small portable file storage device you can use to move files between computers. Make sure you are correctly ejecting your USB before you take it out of the computer, especially if you are copying files to it. This will help prevent the files becoming corrupted and unable to be used.

Backing up your work

Electronic files can easily be accidentally deleted or corrupted. By creating multiple copies of a file and saving them in different places, you can make sure you don't lose any important ones like assignments. It's a good idea to back up your work in two different ways in case one stop working e.g. you lose your USB.

There are many ways to back up your work to prevent losing your files. Some easy and common ones are:

  • Using a USB or external hard drive
  • Using cloud storage like Dropbox or Google Drive
  • Uploading files to your email account in draft emails

As a TAFE Queensland student, you have access to OneDrive which can be used as cloud storage and to collaborate with other students. Find more information here.
