Information for Students

Library services and facilities

Library staff are available to show you how to:

  • use the library facilities
  • find books, ebooks and items that assist your study
  • access online resources
  • reserve resources from other campuses around the state
  • access and use the online Subject Guides

You can contact Librarians via Ask a Librarian or in person for help with:

  • research for your assignment topic
  • finding relevant digital and print resources
  • use of databases and the internet
  • referencing assignment sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues

All libraries are equipped with multi-function printing devices (MFDs.) which allow you to print, copy, and scan.

Please contact your local library for current printing costs and procedures for adding credit to your account.

Your library account can be accessed online.  

Go to the TAFE Queensland Libraries website and Login to my library account.  

Your Borrower ID is your student number. Your Password is your Connect password.

Once logged in you have access to the self-help options below:

  • renew loans and place reservations through your personal library account (MyAccount)
  • use #quickfind to search databases, ebooks and videos.

 

Logging in and My Library Account Help

How do I log in to my library account?

Your borrower ID is always your TAFE Queensland student number.  Your Password is your Connect password.

What is My Library Account?

My Library Account allows you to:  ​

  • view  and renew your loans (this will only work if the items are not overdue)
  • check your reservations
  • check your personal details

Once you are logged in you will see your name in the top right of the screen, select My Library Account just under your name to access your library account.

How do I view my current loans and their due date?

You can check what items you have on loan and when the items you have borrowed are due in My Library Account.

1. Go to the library website and log in to your library account (see above)

2. Under the Summary tab select current loans

3. This will display a list of your current loans and their due dates.

What if I want to keep my library items longer?

You can renew the items you have on loan up to 2 times if they are not reserved by another borrower.

You can renew by phone, in person at any campus library in your region or online as shown below:

1. Go to the library website and login to your library account (see above)

2. Go to current loans

3. Check the box next to the items that you would like to renew.

4. Select renew selections, or renew all

Please note:  You will not be able to renew your loans if another person has reserved the item.

To borrow, present your student ID card at the lending desk. You can borrow up to 15 items at any one time.

Resources should be returned on or before the due date. See Your library account tab for instructions on how to renew a loan

Overdue items

As a courtesy, an overdue reminder message will be sent via SMS before an item is due. 

An Overdue Reminder message to return or renew your books will also be sent via SMS when items are 1 week overdue.

Failure to renew or return the overdue items will result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

 

Reservations

You can reserve an item when:

  • The item you want is on loan and you want to borrow it when it is returned.
  • You would like an item held at the library (one week) until you can collect it.
  • You want to borrow and collect an item from a different location to where you are studying. Allow three working days if the item has to be transferred from that location before you call to collect it.

To reserve an item:

  • Search the library and find your item. Click on the title to open the record.
  • Select Place Reservation
  • Enter your student number and PIN number / password (your date of birth - ddmmyyyy or Connect password
  • Select Place Reservation
  • Select your preferred location from the Pickup location drop down menu. If you are an online, external, distance, or correspondence student who wants to borrow an item/s and have it posted to you, select Z_External Borrower - Please post.  

Please Note: If you choose to have this resource posted, you may be responsible for the cost associated with returning this item by the due date. Please contact your library to discuss this matter.

To cancel a reservation:

You can cancel your reservations if you no longer need them.

  • Login to MyAccount on the library website.
  • Select Reservations not yet available.
  • Tick the titles you no longer need.
  • Select cancel selections or cancel all.

To reserve a number of items:

You can reserve a number of items at the same time. 

  • Search the library to find items
  • From the results list of brief records, use the check boxes to select the titles you wish to reserve
  • At the top or bottom of the page select Reserve Selections
  • Enter your student number and PIN number / password (your date of birth - ddmmyyyy or Connect password
  • Select your preferred location from the Pickup location drop down menu. If you are an online, external, distance, or correspondence student who wants to borrow an item/s and have it posted to you, select Z_External Borrower - Please post.  
  • Select Submit

Please Note: If you choose to have several items posted to you, you may be responsible for costs associated with returning these items to the library by the due date.  Please contact your library to discuss this matter.

Computers are available on campus for your use. Booking is not required.

The first time you log in to use your computer account, you will use your personal details:

Borrower ID: Your student number

Password: Your Connect password (new students will receive an email to help set this up)

This combination of your student number and personal password will be your log in for your library account, TAFE Queensland computer network, Connect, and WiFi.

If you have trouble logging in:

Reset your password:

  • bring your student card or photo ID to the library desk and staff can help you to reset your password.
  • go to https://passwordreset.tafeqld.edu.au from any computer or mobile device with access to the internet or intranet.

Changing your password:

For security purposes you will be prompted to change your password regularly. It is important you protect this information.

Ask a Librarian is available during library opening hours.

We help you locate resources, renew loans, research or reference assignments and provide assistance with most study and library matters.
