Operating Systems & Web Browsers: Getting the Best Experience with Learning Tools

What Is an Operating System (OS)?

An Operating System is the software that powers your device — whether it's a laptop, tablet, or smartphone. It manages all the hardware and software, allowing you to interact with your device through apps, files, and settings.

Common Operating Systems You’ll Use:

  • Microsoft Windows – Found on most desktop and laptop computers.
  • macOS – The operating system used on Apple desktop and laptop computers, such as MacBooks and iMacs.
  • Android – Used on many smartphones and tablets.
  • iOS – Found on Apple devices like iPhones and iPads.

All of these operating systems support access to your learning platforms, including Connect and the Pulse app, either through a web browser or mobile application.

Web Browsers: Your Gateway to Online Learning

A web browser is the app you use to access websites like Connect, the Library, or Office 365. Each operating system comes with its own default browser, but there are other options available that may work better depending on your device and setup.

Operating System:  Common Browsers
Windows Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox
macOS Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox
Android Google Chrome, Samsung Internet
iOS Safari, Google Chrome

💡 Tip: If you're having trouble accessing Connect or other learning tools, try using a different browser. Sometimes switching browsers can resolve loading or compatibility issues.

Helpful Reminders:

  • Keep your browser updated to ensure compatibility and security.
  • Clear your cache and cookies if pages aren’t loading properly.
  • Use the Pulse app for mobile-friendly access to Connect on Android and iOS devices.
